Bilateral vestibular hypofunction (BVH) occurs when both inner ears have reduced function, leading to chronic dizziness, imbalance, and difficulty with activities that require clear vision during head movement. It can result from illness, medication side effects, aging, or unknown causes.
Vestibular rehabilitation — a specialized form of physical therapy — is the gold-standard treatment for BVH and many other vestibular disorders. Our therapists are trained in vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, including gaze stabilization exercises, habituation training, and balance retraining protocols that help the brain compensate for reduced inner ear function.
Conditions we treat include:
- Bilateral vestibular hypofunction
- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) — treated with repositioning maneuvers such as the Epley
- Unilateral vestibular hypofunction
- Post-concussion dizziness and imbalance
- Age-related balance decline
